The 16-year-old Indio High School student who was shot and killed in an Indio apartment complex was identified Monday by the coroner’s office as Elian Lopez.
The shooting was reported shortly before midnight Friday at the Cielo Vista apartment complex, 81820 Shadow Palm Ave., near the high school, said Indio Police Department Sgt. Daniel Marshall. No arrests have been made.
Lopez, who was found in the courtyard area with several gunshot wounds, died at a hospital, Marshall said.
It was unclear whether Lopez lived at the complex.
Mary Perry of the Desert Sands Unified School District confirmed Lopez was a student at Indio High School.
