A woman was killed when her stalled car was rear-ended by another vehicle and became engulfed in flames Sunday on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Long Beach.

The other motorist was a 50-year-old man driving his 2011 Toyota in the far left lane of the northbound 405 Freeway just north of Palo Verde Avenue. His car hit the woman’s stalled car at 2:45 a.m.

The man escaped the burning wreckage with minor injuries, and was not arrested, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The woman’s 2003 Honda had been blocking the number one lane, CHP investigators said. The woman was unable to get out of her car and arriving paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
