Los Angeles city and county firefighters helped Ventura County firefighters contain a brushfire Sunday that burned through rugged mountains northwest of Chatsworth, near the 118 Freeway’s summit at Rocky Peak.
The brushfire was first reported at 1:28 p.m., according to a Ventura County fire dispatcher.
Initially, acreage burned was estimated at about two acres, according to the dispatcher. However, when it was contained, shortly before 4 p.m., the Ventura Fire Department downgraded the estimate of acreage burned to one-half acre.
No structures were threatened and no injuries reported.
The Los Angeles Fire Department sent two water-dropping helicopters to the wildfire, spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
And the L.A. County Fire Department sent a first alarm brushfire team, said Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett. The team includes two water dropping helicopters, seven engines, four ground crews and other resources, totaling about 50 people, he said.
The fire was visible from much of the San Fernando Valley, as it burned a hillside northwest of Chatsworth.
