Two adjacent vacant homes in Compton were damaged early Thursday by suspicious fires, and authorities used a drone to fly over the scene to see how effective the unmanned aircraft would be in battling a blaze.
Firefighters were sent to Bradfield Avenue and Bales Street about 1 a.m. and again about five hours later, according to the Compton Fire Department.
The first fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes, and the second fire was doused in about 45 minutes, Compton fire Battalion Chief Anthony Adams said.
Both fires were considered “suspicious” and under investigation, Adams said.
Damage estimates were not immediately available.
Fire officials allowed a drone to fly over the scene during this morning’s firefighting effort in order to provide information to allow the evaluation of such equipment by commanders for possible future use, Adams said.
