Burbank Police Chief Scott LaChasse was taken to a hospital Thursday for a “medical issue” he experienced while attending a Glendale Police awards ceremony, authorities said.

LaChasse was taken to the hospital early Thursday afternoon, Burbank police Lt. Scott Meadows said.

“The chief is awake, alert, and in good spirits,” Meadows said. The nature of the medical issue was not immediately disclosed.

LaChasse became Burbank’s police chief on an interim basis in January, 2010, and was named the city’s top cop on a permanent basis in April, 2013.

He had served for more than 30 years on the Los Angeles Police Department, leaving in the LAPD in 2002 as a deputy chief.
