City firefighters quickly knocked down a small vegetation fire Monday in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation area, but not before it charred about three acres of brush, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The small brush fire was accidentally ignited at 6:11 p.m. near Woodley Avenue and Burbank Boulevard in the recreation area, fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
“The cause of the fire can be attributed to a downed model airplane,” Humphrey said. “Someone was flying the plane and it crashed, starting the fire. We’ve spoken to the operator about it.”
The department dispatched 30 firefighters to the scene and extinguished the flames in about 20 minutes, Humphrey continued.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
