Authorities Friday identified a pedestrian fatally injured when a truck hit him on a Wilmington sidewalk.
It occurred about 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of East E Street and Fries Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division.
Javier Gonzalez-Heredia, 64, of Wilmington died at a hospital, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. LAPD Officer Aareon Jefferson said the pickup truck was southbound on Fries Avenue when its driver tried to steer around a vehicle stopped at a red light. The truck jumped a curb and hit the pedestrian, Jefferson said.
The man driving the pickup truck was arrested, police said. His name was not immediately released. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call (877) LAPD-247.
