A brush fire that started late Thursday morning in Banning blackened about 75 acres, but no homes or other structures were threatened and no evacuations were anticipated.

The fire was reported at 11:34 a.m. near the 11000 block of Mias Canyon Road, according to Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Firefighters from San Bernardino County, along with the U.S. Forest Service and Morongo Fire Department, also were dispatched to battle the blaze.

Air tankers and water tenders also were being utilized to fight the flames.

As of 6 p.m., the fire was holding at 75 acres and was 50 percent contained, fire officials said.
