Authorities Tuesday hunted the gang killers of two men gunned down in a hail of bullets in the parking lot of a Compton motel as the victims repaired a car.
Deputies sought help from anyone who may have information about the bloody murders.
The two victims, identified Tuesday as 20-year-old Andres Cardenas and 18-year-old Marc Garcia, both of Compton, were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 1100 block of South Long Beach Boulevard at 4:05 p.m. Saturday to respond to an “assault with a deadly weapon, gunshot victim.”
They later learned that two men had been repairing a vehicle in the parking lot of the Travel Plaza Inn when two men in a silver 2000 Honda Civic pulled up alongside them, said Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The two suspects, who were armed and wearing dark clothing, got out of the Honda and began shooting at the two men, he said.
The suspects then fled northbound on Long Beach Boulevard, but the silver Honda was recovered a short distance away, authorities said.
Anyone with information on the case was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be provided to Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
