The mysterious body of a 50-year- old man found in an El Monte apartment because of a foul odor may have been there for a few days, homicide detectives said Wednesday.

There was no word if the grim death scene involved a crime or was due to natural causes.

Police were dispatched to the 4300 block of Peck Road about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday regarding the foul odor coming from the apartment, said Deputy Kimberly Alexander of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“The victim appears to have been there for a few days on the process of decomposition of the body,” Alexander said. “It also appears he is the male resident of the location.”

The cause of death has yet to be established, Alexander said.

Authorities did not immediately identify the man.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the death to call them at (323) 890-5500.
