A man was shot and wounded near the Metro Blue Line’s Firestone station Monday, prompting a shutdown of the station.
The sheriff’s department received a call about 4:10 p.m. about a person down on the tracks “a couple hundred yards from the station” near Firestone Boulevard and Maie Avenue in the unincorporated Florence-Firestone area north of Watts, according to Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Policing Division.
When deputies arrived, they found a wounded man, who by then had made his way to a station platform, Montenegro said.
The man was taken to a hospital, but his condition was not immediately available, Montenegro said.
Trains were sharing a track in the area and bypassing the station, which was closed as investigators gathered evidence, he said.
Metro advised passengers to expect delays, saying passengers can board or disembark trains at the Florence station to the north or the 103rd Street/Watts Towers station to the south.
