Police were investigating the shooting of two men, leaving one in extremely critical condition, in Pomona Sunday.

The shootings happened near the intersection of Gilbert Street and West Orange Grove Avenue about 8:45 a.m., Pomona police Sgt. Brian Hagerty.

Police responded to the location after receiving a call about a “man down,” at that site, Hagerty said. The officer discovered a man in his 30s suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. L.A. County Fire Department paramedics transported him to a hospital in extremely critical condition. The victim’s identity was withheld by police.

Meanwhile, a man who was shot in the hand in the same attack arrived at the hospital. He was identified as 35-year-old Martin Ramirez of Pomona, Hagerty continued. Ramirez was treated and released several hours later.

A motive for the shootings was unknown. No suspect information was immediately released by Pomona police.
