A fire that broke out Thursday just south of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley damaged three unhitched semi trailers and scorched roughly three acres before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 7:15 a.m. in the area of Riverside Avenue and Wineville Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

An agency spokeswoman said 17 engine crews and a truck company, numbering about 60 personnel, were sent to the location and encountered flames threatening a trucking depot just east of the Interstate 15/60 Freeway interchange. The area is stacked with sprawling warehouses.

The flames reached semi trailers parked near one of the facilities, resulting in about $35,000 damage, but crews prevented the fire from spreading to any of the structures, according to the fire department.

The blaze was fully contained shortly before 9 a.m., and crews were expected to finish mopping up by early afternoon.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
