A motorcyclist who collided with a pickup truck on a Desert Hot Springs highway remained hospitalized with major injuries Friday.
The crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday at state Route 62 and Mission Creek Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the motorcycle was hit by a Dodge truck, which prompted the shutdown of the highway’s southbound lanes.
The CHP initially reported that the motorcyclist was fatally injured, but Desert Hot Springs police, who took over the crash investigation, said the rider remained hospitalized with serious injuries. The motorcyclist’s name and age were withheld.
DHS Deputy Chief Jim Henson said the pickup’s driver was uninjured and cooperating with police in their investigation.
The crash blocked off southbound lanes of state Route 62 for several hours, with some traffic diverted onto Indian Canyon Drive.
