At least two people were injured Monday when a vehicle overturned on the Riverside (91) Freeway, colliding with three other cars.

The rollover crash was reported just after 4 p.m. on the westbound 91, between La Sierra and Magnolia avenues in Riverside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said the driver of a sedan apparently lost control in the HOV lane, causing the vehicle to flip onto its roof, striking nearby vehicles in the process.

Officers shut down two lanes for Riverside Fire Department personnel and to conduct a preliminary investigation. A SigAlert was posted at 4:15 p.m. due to the ensuing traffic jam.

Two people were taken to hospitals for treatment of unspecified injuries, according to reports from the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear if the victims were occupants of the overturned car or the other vehicles.

The CHP arranged for all four vehicles involved to be towed away from the location.

The westbound 91 was expected to be fully reopened by 6 p.m.
