A Santa Clarita man who intentionally drove a pickup truck off a cliff with his 68-year-old father inside was sentenced to nearly 14 years in state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Sean McClelland, 27, was sentenced immediately after pleading no contest Wednesday to one count of attempted murder involving his father and one count of kidnapping involving his mother, who was able to escape from the truck before it went over an embankment near Templin Highway and Interstate 5 on July 4, 2016, according to Deputy District Attorney Emily Cole.
McClelland had threatened his parents with a machete after the couple, weary of clashes with their son, found a new place for him to live, the prosecutor said.
Both men were seriously injured in the crash, Cole said.
