A motorist in his 40s was killed in a fiery crash, when his small car slammed into a power pole at an intersection in Northridge.

The crash was a little after 2 a.m. at Balboa Boulevard and Devonshire Street, the LAPD‘s Valley Traffic Division reported.

The driver was not immediately identified.

The motorist was driving a white Hyundai Accent south on Balboa at Devonshire when he apparently lost control of the car, which hit a power pole south of the intersection at the west curb.

The car caught fire and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:10 a.m.

The driver had been alone in the car, and he was described as a man in his 40s, said Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.

The LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (818) 644-8032.
