A bicyclist was fatally injured Monday in a collision with a truck in Rancho Mirage.
The cyclist, a man who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:13 a.m. collision at Bob Hope Drive and Ginger Rogers Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

INDIO (CNS) – A man who admitted breaking into pharmacies in Palm Springs and Calimesa after hours and stealing prescription medication was sentenced Monday to one year in custody.
Marcus Fantroy II, 29, of Whittier, pleaded guilty last week to felony charges of burglary, grand theft and transporting drugs across county lines in connection with the break-ins last Sept. 20 at Walgreens stores at 1700 E. Vista Chino in Palm Springs and 1186 Calimesa Boulevard in Calimesa.

RANCHO MIRAGE (CNS) – Pernilla Lindberg of Sweden claimed her first LPGA victory at the ANA Inspiration golf tournament in Rancho Mirage Monday.
Lindberg defeated 2013 ANA Inspiration champion Inbee Park in an eight-hole playoff that began Sunday, but was halted due to darkness at the Mission Hills Country Club’s Dinah Shore Tournament Course.

INDIO (CNS) – Former USC and Los Angeles Raiders quarterback Todd Marinovich, who was attempting a football comeback in the Coachella Valley following years of legal troubles, is back behind bars.
The Desert Sun reported that Marinovich, 48, was arrested March 19 in Orange County, released on bond, then re-arrested on March 23. He’s being held without bail and is slated to be released from the Orange County Jail on May 3, according to jail records that do not detail why Marinovich was taken into custody.

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Jury selection began Monday for the trial of two men accused of killing a woman, her boyfriend and her 18-year-old daughter in Pinyon Pines more than a decade ago.
Robert Lars Pape and Cristin Conrad Smith, both 29, are charged with three counts of first-degree murder and special circumstance allegations of taking multiple lives in the same crime.

INDIO (CNS) – A Coachella man who was shot eight times by an Indio police officer after firing off a gun at a Coachella mobile home park was found guilty Monday of two felonies.
Jurors deliberated for nearly two days before convicting Mario Alberto Soto, 43, of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and negligent discharge of a firearm in connection with the Nov. 13, 2014, gunfire at the Coachella Mobile Home Park.

INDIO (CNS) – A man accused in the beating death of a Thermal resident whose body was found in the vicinity of a drainage channel near his mobile home pleaded not guilty Monday to a murder charge.
Saul Mayoral, 50, allegedly killed the victim with a bat, according to the criminal complaint, in which the victim is identified only as Hector Q.

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Vehicle thefts in Riverside County fell by 12.6 percent last year, dovetailing with a statewide decline, according to statistics released Monday.
The California Highway Patrol’s 2017 Vehicle Theft and Recovery Report showed that a total 10,414 cars, SUVs, trucks and motorcycles were reported stolen last year in Riverside County, compared to 11,920 reported in 2016.

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – A man who robbed and aided his cohort in sexually assaulting a Riverside woman after breaking into her residence was convicted Monday of several felony charges.
After two days of deliberations, a Riverside jury found 22-year-old Keshawn Marquis Amis of Jurupa Valley guilty of sexual assault, robbery and acting in concert to perpetrate an act of violence in connection with the 2016 attack near the Canyon Crest Country Club.

CORONA (CNS) – Two people were injured Monday in a seven-vehicle collision on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona.
The crash occurred about 4:10 p.m. on the eastbound Riverside Freeway at Lincoln Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

INDIO (CNS) – A man allegedly found with 12 dead dogs inside a stolen truck in Thousand Palms pleaded not guilty Monday to a dozen felony animal cruelty counts.
Douglas John Yates, 55, is also charged with one count of receiving stolen property in connection with his Feb. 15 arrest on Varner Road.

HEMET (CNS) – A probationer suspected of running over a Hemet man and then fleeing the scene of the fatality was being held Monday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
David Andrew Durbin, 33, of Menifee was booked Sunday into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death.
