Authorities Friday identified two people killed in a fiery two-car crash in Inglewood that left a third person badly injured.
The crash occurred about 9:20 a.m. Thursday at 108th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, according to the Inglewood Police Department.
Catalina Garcia, 25, of Hawthorne and Ismael Zepeda Jr., 27, of Inglewood died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
Garcia was driving a Ford Mustang and Zepeda was her passenger, police said.
The driver of the other car suffered a broken leg and was taken to a hospital.
Both vehicles caught fire in the crash, which occurred across the street from a Los Angeles County Fire Department station, said county fire Capt. Brian Jordan.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that an Infiniti Q70 was traveling northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard and collided with Ford Mustang that was making a left turn onto 108th Street,” police said.
A firefighter at the station heard the collision and found the flaming vehicles when he went out to help, Jordan told ABC7.
The firefighter and passersby pulled the two victims who died from the Mustang, Jordan said.
The Infiniti driver suffered serious injuries, police said. Jordan said the driver had “a severely broken leg.”
“The driver was transported to an area hospital and is cooperating with the investigation,” police said. “Inglewood Police Department Traffic Investigators are investigating if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. At this time the cause of the traffic collision has not been determined and remains under investigation.”
Reports from the scene indicated that both vehicles may have been traveling at high speed at the time of impact, with the cars ending up about 200 feet apart.
