Two men wanted in connection with the hit-and-run death of a homeless man as he slept near the Venice Boardwalk were seen on security video applying graffiti to a building before running down the victim, and detectives sought public help Tuesday to identify the men or the graffiti.

The victim, 35-year-old Eddie Davis, was struck about 1:30 a.m. April 19 at Wave Crest Avenue and Speedway by a hit-and-run motorist in an SUV, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Two men were being sought in connection with the hit-and-run, and police released security video showing the suspects’ vehicle shortly after the death.

On Tuesday, the LAPD announced that investigators had discovered grainy surveillance video “that captured the suspects on Ocean Front Walk in Venice before the hit-and-run collision occurred.”

“They were seen applying graffiti with the word/name `TORE’ or `TOBE,”’ LAPD Officer Drake Madison said. “We are not releasing that video at this time.”

The suspect vehicle may have been a 2002 GMC Yukon, blue in color, with stock wheels. One suspect was described as a 5-foot, 11-inch tall male about 30 to 35 years old and was last seen wearing a brown jacket, blue plaid shirt, dark blue jeans and tennis shoes.

The other suspect was described as a 5-foot, 6-inch-tall Latino man, about 30 to 35 years old. He was last seen wearing a gray beanie, gray sweatshirt, dark pants and tennis shoes.

A reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the Los Angeles City Council for information leading to the a hit-and-run suspect or suspects’ identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

Anyone who knows the suspects, or who knows anything about the graffiti was urged to call LAPD West Traffic Division detectives at (213) 473-0222.
