A 35-year-old man suspected of throwing bottles that left nine people injured during an electronic music festival in Palm Springs was arrested Friday.
Milan Youssef of El Cajon, in San Diego County, was booked at Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of several counts of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. Bail information was not immediately available.
The assault was reported shortly before 1:40 a.m. Sunday at the Palm Springs Air Museum, 745 N. Gene Autry Trail, during Splash House, now in its 13th year. The event is being held at the Hilton Palm Springs, Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel and Saguaro Palm Springs, with after-parties taking place at the air museum.
The second and final weekend of the festival begins Friday.
Police said a dispute between an unknown number of people escalated, with bottles being thrown into the crowd. Nine people apparently uninvolved in the dispute sustained minor injuries from broken glass. Two people were treated at the scene by paramedics, while several others were taken to a local hospital.
During the investigation, Youssef was identified as a suspect. The department in collaboration with the San Diego Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force worked together to find the suspect.
The department stated that investigators contacted Youssef, who agreed to surrender himself. He turned himself in on Friday and was taken into custody.
