A suspected gang member has been charged with killing a 39-year-old man who was shot in his car, which then crashed into several parked vehicles in Pomona.
Timothy Lee Campbell, 27, is charged with one count each of murder and shooting at an occupied motor vehicle in connection with the May 20 shooting of Joel Gonzalez, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Officers were sent about 1:55 p.m. that day to the 1300 block of Cordova Street to investigate reports of shots fired followed by sounds of a traffic collision in the 1300 block of Cordova Street, and found Gonzalez suffering from a gunshot wound, Pomona police said.
Gonzalez died the following day.
Campbell was arrested during a May 26 traffic stop in the San Bernardino County community of Highland by officers from the Pomona Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and Major Crimes Task Force, according to police.
Campbell — who has remained jailed since then in lieu of $2 million bail — is scheduled to be arraigned next Monday in a Pomona courtroom.
Another suspected gang member, Cory Johnson, 39, was arrested in Ontario on suspicion of being an accessory, police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned June 20 on one count of being an accessory after the fact, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
