A man suspected of kidnapping the mother of his two children Saturday was arrested several hours later near his Whittler residence, police said.
Julian Rene Delayo, 41, was arrested just before 9 a.m. after he ran from his residence in the 8000 block of Summerfield Avenue and hid in a nearby yard, Claremont police Sgt. Robert Ewing said.
The incident began at 1:34 a.m. in the 700 block of West San Jose Avenue in Claremont when Claremont officers were told by family members the man abducted the 28-year-old woman and fled in his vehicle, Ewing said.
Police traced the vehicle to Delayo’s home in unincorporated Whittier and Claremont police and Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter in the area, he said.
When police ordered Delayo out of his residence, he ran out the back door and hid in a neighbor’s yard, where he was located and arrested without incident, Ewing said.
The woman was found unharmed in Delayo’s residence, he said.
Delayo was booked into the Los Angeles County Inmate Reception Center on suspicion of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and obstruction of justice and was held in lieu of $220,000 bail, Ewing said.
