An SUV driver was killed Monday in Fullerton in a head-on collision with a pickup truck whose driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash was reported about 3:15 p.m. in the 3700 block of North Harbor Boulevard, near Imperial Highway and the border with La Habra, according to Fullerton police Sgt. Jon Radus.

“Upon arrival, officers located a blue, 2018 Toyota Tacoma and a silver, 1996 GMC Jimmy,” Radus said. “The vehicles were in the number one lane of southbound Harbor Boulevard, and the unidentified male driver of the GMC Jimmy was trapped inside the vehicle with significant, life-threatening injuries.

“The Toyota driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, but the GMC driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The preliminary investigation “reveals the GMC Jimmy was traveling northbound on Harbor Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, the (SUV) veered into the center divider and crossed into southbound traffic, striking the Toyota Tacoma head-on as it was traveling southbound on Harbor Blvd in the number one lane,” Radus said.

The deceased motorist’s name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

“At this point in the investigation, it is not known if alcohol and/or drugs played a factor in the cause of the collision,” Radus said.
