One person was killed and five others were injured in a fiery crash between a pickup truck and another vehicle at a 91 Freeway off-ramp in Riverside Saturday.

One witness told CHP officers the pickup veered from the freeway’s HOV lane across the freeway lanes onto the offramp, and did not appear to slow down for cross traffic in an intersection.

Initial CHP reports suggest that the pickup truck may have been stolen and was being pursued by police at some point before the crash.

The crash was reported at 8:29 a.m. near the Central Avenue off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol log.

Before the crash, the pickup truck was seen driving at high speeds on the 91 Freeway when it exited onto Central Avenue, ran a red light, crashed into another vehicle, rolled over and ignited, the CHP said.

A passenger in the pickup truck was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Riverside City Fire Department. Another passenger in the pickup truck and its driver were injured and hospitalized.

Three people in the second vehicle were also injured.

Central Avenue was closed to traffic just north and south of the freeway, as well as its 91 off-ramp, according to the CHP.
