Police were searching Sunday for a missing 13-year-old girl who lives in Van Nuys, as well as a 50-year-old male transient who may be involved in her disappearance.

Maria Roman was last seen about 3 p.m. Saturday in the 16700 block of Archwood Street. police said.

According to police, Maria and her family befriended a local transient named Michael Stewart. On Saturday, the girl left with Stewart in the family’s 1998 Nissan red Pathfinder, California License plate 8CHH187.

Neither Maria nor Stewart have been heard from since Saturday.

Maria is Filipino, with black hair and brown eyes. She stands 5 feet 3 inches tall, has a thin build at about 90 pounds with medium complexion.

She last was seen wearing a red striped shirt, blue jeans, black and white Adidas and a black backpack, police said.

Stewart is Hispanic. He stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He last was seen wearing a black shirt, gray pants and black and white shoes.
