Police Tuesday identified a man fatally shot in Pomona in what was at least the second fatal shooting in the city in four days.

The shooting near the intersection of Fourth Street and Caswell Avenue was reported about 7:15 p.m. Monday, according to Sgt. Jon Edson of the Pomona Police Department.

Responding officers found a man, identified as Steven William Perez, 27, of Pomona, suffering from a gunshot wound. Perez was taken to a hospital where he later died, said Edson.

The shooting is possibly gang-related, he said. No description of the suspect was immediately available.

On Friday night, Nathan Ware, 34, of Pomona, was found wounded in the 1400 block of Edgehill Drive near Montvue Park and died that night in a hospital.

Investigators determined Ware was walking near his home when he was confronted by an unknown number of suspects, who fired several rounds striking him in the upper torso, Edson said.

The shootings are not connected, said Lt. Marcus Perez.

Anyone with information on either shooting was asked to call Pomona police at (909) 620-2085. Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
