A man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder for allegedly gunning down a Perris resident.

Arthur Daniel Laguna, 31, was booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta in connection with the killing of 26-year-old Jacinto Placencia in the 21700 block of Markham Street, near Carroll Street, in Mead Valley.

Sgt. Ben Ramirez said the attack happened about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, though the circumstances were unclear.

According to Ramirez, deputies were sent to the Mead Valley location to investigate reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and found Placencia shot several times inside his car.

Witnesses provided deputies with a description of the alleged shooter, Laguna, who was tracked down six hours later in the 20200 block of Hunter Street, where he was detained without a struggle, Ramirez said.

The victim was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation.

Laguna has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.

He’s being held without bail.
