Authorities Friday identified a young woman who was fatally injured after she got out of a car following a crash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in West Covina and a pickup truck slammed into her vehicle, authorities said.

The crashes occurred about 2 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound freeway west of Grand Avenue, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Irene Aleo, 19, of Upland died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported.

According to the CHP, Aleo was one of three passengers in a 2015 Hyundai Elantra that had rear-ended a 2014 Toyota Prius. Following the crash, the Hyundai came to rest in the No. 1 lane and the Prius ended up on the right freeway shoulder.

After the crash, the Hyundai driver and the three passengers — all from Upland — got out of the car, and that’s when a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck crashed into the vehicle, which was pushed into them, the CHP reported.

The Hyundai driver, a 19-year-old man, suffered major injuries, as did an 18-year-old woman who had been riding in the car. A 19-year-old man who had been riding in the car suffered minor injuries.

The truck driver and the Prius driver were not injured, the CHP reported. No arrests were reported. Freeway lanes were closed for about three hours while an investigation was conducted.
