Three men were arrested on weapons charges after a man was shot and wounded Wednesday in Pomona.
Officers responded at about 1:25 p.m. to reports of as many as 15 shots fired and a traffic collision in the area of Harrison and Towne avenues and found a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Pomona police.
The man was hospitalized in stable condition, Pomona police Sgt. Ryan Rodriguez said.
Multiple suspects were seen running while carrying firearms. Two of them were detained in a nearby residential area. The third ran away and a foot pursuit ensued, according to Rodriguez.
The suspect jumped multiple fences and the pursuing officer lost sight of him, but a containment was quickly set up, Rodriguez said.
Units from the Claremont and Pomona police departments conducted a yard-to-yard search until the suspect was found hiding in a backyard, Rodriguez said.
Three firearms were recovered, two at the shooting scene and the other where the third suspect was found hiding, according to Rodriguez.
All three suspects were booked at the Pomona city jail on suspicion of illegally possessing firearms. They were identified as 42-year-old Samuel Williams and 19-year-old Malik Slayton, both of Victorville, and Deantae Williams, 25, of Los Angeles.
Harrison Elementary School in the 400 block of East Harrison Avenue was locked down as a precaution as officers searched the area, police said.
Authorities believe the shooting was gang related and an investigation is on-going.
Anyone with information that could help investigators was urged to call Pomona police at (909) 620-2085.
