A 19-year old known gang member was arrested on gun charges in Pomona following a short foot chase, authorities said Saturday.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, an officer on patrol in the 2200 block of North Towne Avenue, near Pomona High School, recognized the gang member, identified as Corey Wright, 19, of Pomona, from a recently posted gang video on social media, according to a statement from the Pomona Police Department.

Wright attempted to enter a football game being hosted at the school, but was turned away and began walking toward the intersection of San Antonio and Towne avenues, the statement said.

The officer requested assistance from the Major Crimes Task Force, which attempted to contact Wright upon their arrival at the scene, police said. Wright fled, but was taken into custody a short distance away and a loaded firearm was recovered.

Wright was arrested on suspicion of various gun charges and booked at the Pomona City Jail.

Officers were conducting increased patrols in the area due to recent shootings.
