Authorities Wednesday released the name of a pregnant woman killed in a collision with a suspected drunk driver in Hemet this weekend.
Krystil Kincaid, 29, of San Jacinto, who was eight months pregnant, died just after noon Monday at Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center in Moreno Valley, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. Her unborn daughter also died at the hospital Monday.
Marcos A. Forestal, 28, of Burbank was arrested Sunday night and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of drunk driving causing injury. However, that charge was upgraded to gross vehicular manslaughter following the deaths of Kincaid and her fetus, according to county jail records.
According to Hemet Police Lt. Eric Dickson, the crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Warren Road, just north of Devonshire Avenue. Dickson alleged that Forestal was driving his BMW over the speed limit south on Warren when he veered into opposing traffic lanes.
Kincaid, who was at the wheel of a Chrysler sedan, was unable to steer clear of Forestal’s car, and the two vehicles collided in the northbound lanes, according to the lieutenant. The Chrysler caught fire, but patrol officers arrived within a couple of minutes and immediately doused the flames with their fire extinguishers, he said.
Fire crews extricated Kincaid from the Chrysler and airlifted her to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley. A GoFundMe page created for her husband and three children states that the crash left her legs pinned beneath her car’s dashboard.
She was initially expected to recover from her injuries but died the following day.
Forestal was found walking around the wreckage and arrested without a struggle after officers determined that he was intoxicated, according to Dickson.
The suspect was examined at a nearby trauma center and then taken to jail.
