A man riding an electric bicycle was struck and killed by a car Monday afternoon in Stanton.
The collision occurred just after 1:50 p.m. on Cerritos Avenue near Magnolia Avenue, said Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim, who was initially reported to be not breathing, was revived at the scene and taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, but died of his injuries about 3 p.m., Braun said.
The bicyclist was not immediately identified.
The driver pulled into a nearby parking lot and walked back, officials said.
Authorities initially characterized it as a hit-and-run. The unidentified motorist did not appear to be impaired, according to Braun, who said investigators suspect it was an accident.
A stretch of Cerritos Avenue was closed until 5:15 p.m. for the investigation.
The sheriff’s department sought the public’s help in identifying the bicyclist, who was described as Asian, 50-60 years old, 5 feet 2 inches tall with black and gray hair, a thin moustache and brown eyes. He was riding a white electric “Ancheer” bike.
Anyone with information regarding his identity was urged to call the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Investigations Unit at (714) 647-7400 and reference case 18-04578-BB.
