Police in Montebello searched Thursday for a man suspected in a series of armed robberies in the city over the past several days.
Daniel Joseph Macias, 22, was identified as the person they believe was responsible for several crimes, including at least four robberies between Friday and Monday, according Lt. Larry Jackson of the Montebello Police Department.
On Friday, a woman was approached by Macias in the parking lot of her apartment complex and he demanded her property, but when she refused, Macias pistol-whipped her, Jackson said. Macias fled with the woman’s backpack, which contained her car keys.
The woman was transported to a hospital and after being released, she discovered her Volkswagen SUV had been stolen, he said.
Macias was seen driving the stolen SUV during subsequent robberies and carrying a large black revolver and wearing the same ”skeleton” mask and clothes during each robbery, Jackson said.
The SUV was recovered Wednesday in San Bernardino County, he said.
Macias is Hispanic, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 150 to 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, Jackson said. He is considered armed and dangerous and is known to frequent East Los Angeles, Montebello and parts of San Bernardino County.
Anyone with information on Macias’ whereabouts is urged to contact Detective C. Adams at (323) 887-1256 or email at email@example.com.
