Police Monday released surveillance video of a suspect wanted for stabbing an 89-year-old man in a McDonald’s restaurant in Garden Grove.

The victim went to the restaurant at 13971 Harbor Blvd. on Saturday morning with his church group and was attacked in the bathroom about 10:40 a.m., said Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney.

“He was washing his hands when this crazy dude comes behind him and attacks him and stabs him like nine times,” Whitney told City News Service. “The guy didn’t say anything to him, rob him or anything.”

The suspect, who was clad all in black, had been in the bathroom for 20 to 30 minutes before the attack and was standing with his arms crossed just before he pounced on the victim, Whitney said.

“The suspect takes off on foot and leaves the victim in a bloody mess on the floor in the restroom,” the lieutenant said.

The victim remains hospitalized at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange in critical but stable condition, Whitney said. Investigators went to the hospital on Monday to talk to him.

The suspect was described as Latino, 20 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall, with medium build. He was wearing a black hat, black long-sleeve shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information was asked to call Garden Grove police detectives at (714) 741-5800.
