A drive-by shooting in Banning Thursday sparked a police chase that ended with the suspects crashing their vehicle and placed under arrest.
Jimmy Favela, 35, and Michael Mariscal, 19, both of Banning, are accused in the noontime shooting that took place in the 300 block of Roberge Avenue.
According to Banning police, the men drove up to an unidentified victim, with one of the men opening fire, but missing the target.
With a suspect and vehicle description provided by witnesses, officers were able to locate the suspected shooters in the car at around 1 p.m., just west of the shooting scene, in the 400 block of Grove Avenue, according to the Banning Police Department.
The men allegedly sped away when officers approached, triggering a short pursuit that ended when Mariscal, who was behind the wheel, crashed the vehicle in the 2200 block of West Wilson Street.
Mariscal was arrested at the crash scene, but Favela allegedly ran from the wreck, but was apprehended by pursuing officers “a short time later,” police said.
Neither man was injured in the crash, and they were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and firearm possession, while Mariscal was also arrested on suspicion of felony evading arrest.
Police said a loaded handgun was found on Mariscal’s person, and a second loaded handgun was found inside the vehicle.
