Two people were killed and three others injured Friday morning in a two-car collision involving a wrong way driver on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway transition road to the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Sylmar.

The wrong way driver was going southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Nicholson.

The northbound lanes of the Golden State Freeway transition toad to the northbound Antelope Valley Freeway will be blocked until at least 8 a.m., the CHP said.

Firefighters responded to the location about 3:25 a.m. and determined some patients needed to be freed from the wreckage, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The three injured victims were hospitalized, one in grave condition, another in critical condition and the third with non-life-threatening injuries, Stewart said.

The ages and genders of the patients were unknown.
