A woman was killed and four others, including two children, were transported to a hospital following a crash involving a pickup truck and a big rig in Riverside, authorities said Tuesday.
Firefighters responded about 11 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Jefferson Street and Lincoln Avenue and located a late model pickup truck that had collided with the trailer of a big rig and was wedged under the semi, according to Battalion Chief Jeff DeLaurie of the Riverside Fire Department.
The driver, a woman of approximately 30, died at the scene and a man who was trapped in the passenger seat of the pickup was freed by firefighters and taken to a hospital in moderate condition, DeLaurie said.
Two children who had been in the backseat of the pickup were removed by bystanders, he said. They were both taken to a hospital in moderate condition.
The driver of the big rig was taken to a hospital as a precaution, DeLaurie said.
Riverside police investigated the cause of the crash.
