A woman was found dead Tuesday in her apartment in a downtown senior living facility, and a potential suspect was taken into custody, authorities said.
The senior citizen, whose name and age were not immediately released, was discovered about 2:40 a.m. in her residence in the 3000 block of Orange Street, near First Street, according to Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback.
Officers were called to the Silvercrest Residences operated by The Salvation Army in response to a welfare check request from one of the woman’s relatives. They found the victim “unconscious with visible injuries,” Railsback said. Paramedics arrived within a few minutes and pronounced her dead at the scene.
“A possible suspect was located nearby and safely detained,” Railsback said.
The identity of the man and a possible motive were not disclosed. He was being questioned by homicide detectives and had not been booked into jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
The daughter of a woman who lives in the complex told ABC7 that someone tried to break into her mother’s second-floor unit, but did not gain entry.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation was asked to call the detective bureau at (951) 353-7104.
