A 20-year-old Santa Clarita man was facing felony vehicular manslaughter charges Thursday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during a three-vehicle collision in Canyon Country that left another driver dead.
The crash occurred about 11:24 p.m. Monday in the at the intersection of Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon roads, according to Shirley Miller, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Santa Clarita Valley Station.
Suspect Joshua Austin was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck west on Soledad Canyon Road and failed to stop at a red light before colliding with the driver’s side of a Hyundai Elantra, Miller said.
The Hyundai driver was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
The driver of a Toyota Prius that was involved in the collision was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Austin was detained at the scene and subsequently arrested, Miller said.
According to the Santa Clarita Valley Station’s Twitter account, Austin has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol with injury.
The name of the deceased driver was not immediately available.
