One of two pedestrians struck and killed while walking outside crosswalks in separate, unrelated crashes in Huntington Beach was identified Saturday by the Orange County coroner.
The victim identified as Oscar Frias, a 19-year-old man from Greeley, Colorado was struck and killed by a motorist on Sunday, March 10, at 3:15 a.m. while walking outside a crosswalk, just north of an intersection in Huntington Beach, Warken said.
Frias was crossing Beach Boulevard, outside the crosswalk, near Warner Avenue, when he was struck by a 2013 silver Kia Optima going north through the intersection on a green light, Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Eric Warken said.
The motorist, a 26-year-old man from Riverside, stayed at the scene. His car sustained some front-end damage.
Officers dispatched to the location reported they located Frias in the roadway with “significant trauma to his head and entire body.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Saturday, a woman, possibly between 50 and 60 years old, was struck and killed by a motorist driving a silver Nissan Versa while crossing Beach Boulevard outside the crosswalk, just south of an intersection near Slater Avenue, Warken said.
“The vehicle was driving north, approaching the intersection, which had a steady green light, when this collision occurred,” Warken said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the motorist, whose car sustained major damage to the front end, hood and front windshield, remained at the scene, he said.
Officers dispatched to the location a little before 10:50 p.m. Saturday reported locating the woman in the roadway with “significant trauma to her head and entire body,” he said.
