A man was fatally wounded in an officer-involved shooting Thursday in Anaheim, where an Irvine police attempt to serve a search warrant led to a barricade situation.
Irvine police went to the 500 block of North Harcourt Street in Anaheim about 9 a.m. to serve the search warrant on a suspect wanted for vehicle burglary, according to Kim Mohr of Irvine police.
“During the service of that search warrant they located firearms in the house and encountered individuals barricaded in the attic of a garage, where they located a rifle,” said Anaheim police Sgt. Luis Correa.
When the barricade situation ensued, an Anaheim police SWAT team was summoned, Mohr said.
The man Irvine police were looking for is suspected of stealing guitars and amps from a vehicle, Mohr said.
During a search of the garage, SWAT officers “encountered two suspects,” Correa said.
One of the men, who was a parolee at-large, was subdued with “less-than-lethal” rounds, but the other was killed in an officer-involved shooting, Correa said. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
A third man, who was also a parolee at-large, was also taken into custody, Correa said.
