The driver of a suspected stolen Mercedes-Benz led authorities on an hourlong chase from near downtown Los Angeles to Santa Fe Springs Thursday evening then back to downtown Los Angeles, where police called off the chase.
Los Angeles police began tracking the vehicle around 8 p.m. near downtown Los Angeles.
Police turned the pursuit over to the California Highway Patrol when the suspect headed south on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, exited in the Santa Fe Springs area and got on the northbound Golden State Freeway.
At times during the high-speed chase, the driver weaved in and out of traffic on the freeway and turned off the vehicle’s headlights, ABC7 reported.
The suspect transitioned from the Santa Ana Freeway to the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway, exiting in downtown Los Angeles and driving on city streets in downtown and the Westlake district.
The driver got on the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway before transitioning to the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway, then exited the freeway and traveled on streets in downtown Los Angeles, where the suspect was able to evade police. Officers called off the chase around 9 p.m., KCAL9 reported.
Police did have the vehicle’s information, including its license plate number, ABC7 reported.
No injuries were reported.
