A Los Angeles School Police Department sergeant was injured in an officer-involved shooting in the Westlake district that also left the suspect wounded.

The shooting occurred at 2:45 p.m. Friday in the area of Third and Alvarado streets, according to school police Sgt. Julie Spry.

Los Angeles police said the officer-involved shooting occurred either before or right after the sergeant was struck by a vehicle driven by the suspect.

Spry confirmed the officer was not shot. According to NBC, he suffered a broken leg when he was struck and run over by the suspect.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange said crews responded at 2:50 p.m. to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision and ended up taking four people to a hospital, including the sergeant and the suspect, who was wounded when the sergeant opened fire.

All four, including the suspect, were hospitalized in good condition, according to Capt. Al Lopez, commanding officer of the LAPD’s Rampart Station.

Channel 4 reported the woman was involved in a hit-and-run collision at Third and Bonnie Brae streets, then carjacked a pickup truck and was involved in a vehicle-pedestrian collision at Third Street and Union Avenue, where the encounter with the officer occurred.
