A two-vehicle crash Wednesday on Interstate 15 south of Corona resulted in one of the autos overturning, injuring the driver and partially blocking the freeway.

The wreck happened about 4 p.m. on northbound I-15, just north of Temescal Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said a dark-colored sedan and a red SUV collided when one of the motorists attempted to merge into an occupied lane, causing the smaller vehicle to flip over in the No. 3 lane.

The SUV stopped in the center divider, sustaining minor damage, according to reports from the scene.

Good Samaritans pulled over and helped extricate the occupant of the sedan, freeing him moments before Riverside County and Corona Fire Department crews reached the location.

The victim suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, according to the CHP.

The SUV occupants were not hurt.

Traffic on northbound I-15 was jammed going back into Lake Elsinore because of the crash, and a Sigalert was issued at 4:25 p.m., warning of major slowing through the area, the CHP said.

The wreck was expected to be cleared by 5:30 p.m.
