A no-hit officer-involved shooting occurred at the end of a short pursuit from Pasadena to Altadena, where two teenage suspects were arrested, authorities said Friday.

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop in the 1300 block of North Raymond Avenue, near Washington Boulevard, about 10 p.m. Thursday but the driver fled northbound and a short pursuit began, according to a statement from the Pasadena Police Department.

The suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed near the Mountain View Cemetery at Raymond Avenue and Woodbury Boulevard in Altadena and the vehicle ended up facing arriving officers, the statement said.

Officers ordered the driver and a passenger — later found to be 17-year-old boys, one from Pasadena, the other from El Monte — out of the vehicle, but they did not comply, police said.

The driver then started the vehicle and drove directly at officers in an attempt to get away and one officer fired his weapon twice, but no one was hit, police said.

Two suspects were arrested and no injuries were reported.

The driver was booked into juvenile hall and the passenger was released to his parents, police said.

“We stand by our officers as this incident is being investigated from the criminal, administrative and civil standpoint,” Pasadena Police Department Chief John Perez said.

“My officers were courageous in their efforts to protect the public and control a hazardous scene doing the everyday tasks you would expect from your police department. In the coming weeks, body-worn camera as well as in-car camera video, and other evidence will be made public for the community to review.”
