A 29-year-old Pomona woman has been arrested in the stabbing death of her father on Jan. 25, according to Pomona police.
Gardenia Guzman was arrested Saturday. She is accused of stabbing her father, Jaime Hernandez Guzman, 58.
On Jan. 25, at about 3:20 a.m., officers responded to an unknown disturbance at the 200 block of West Grove Avenue, Pomona police said.
“Upon officer’s arrival, they discovered the victim, who was lying in his apartment, suffering from a single stab wound to his upper torso area,” said Sergeant Jon Edson. “Life-saving measures were initiated; however, the victim succumbed to his injuries inside the apartment.”
Homicide investigators conducted an exhaustive investigation and they identified Gardenia Guzman as the suspected stabber. Investigators believed father and daughter were involved in an argument and, at some point, she grabbed a knife and stabbed her father to death.
An arrest warrant was issued for Guzman, but her whereabouts had been unknown until Saturday, when members of the Major Crimes Task Force contacted a group of individuals, including Gardenia Guzman, at the corner of Mission Blvd and Reservoir Street.
She was arrested for her outstanding warrant and taken to the Pomona Police Department, where investigators were trying to establish a motive for the crime.
