Amid a spate of crimes targeting Southland pharmacies, police Tuesday released surveillance video of two suspects robbing a Garden Grove pharmacy at gunpoint.
The robbery occurred about 11:20 a.m. on April 10 at West Med Pharmacy in the 8300 block of Garden Grove Boulevard, police said.
Two men, one armed with a handgun, entered the business and leapt onto the counter, Garden Grove Police Department Lt. Carl Whitney said.
They threatened the female pharmacist, forcing her to lie on the floor, before taking about $20,000 worth of prescription medications, cough syrups containing codeine and the cash register drawer, Whitney said.
Descriptions of the suspects were not made available. They fled in a brown Kia Soul with tinted windows that was driven by a third suspect who also acted as a lookout, Whitney said.
“Pharmacy businesses across Orange and Los Angeles counties have been targeted by different burglary and robbery crews over the past several months,” Whitney said. “This past weekend, three pharmacies in Garden Grove were burglarized.”
The burglaries happened between 4:15 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. Saturday at Hong Pharmacy, 8883 Westminster Ave., Ana Pharmacy, 10191 Westminster Ave., and Cali Care Pharmacy, 10278 Westminster Ave., police said.
A suspect pried open the front doors to the stores with a crowbar, but security gates blocked the intruder’s way in two of the pharmacies, police said.
The thief stole prescription medicines like cough syrup with codeine.
Anyone with information on the burglaries was asked to call police at 714-741-5704.
