A homicide suspect led police Tuesday on a pursuit from downtown Los Angeles to the Del Rey area, where he abandoned a vehicle and broke into a house with a family inside, authorities said.
A Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team was able to get the residents out of the house around 3:20 a.m., Officer D. Orris of the LAPD Operations Center said. That left the suspect inside the house alone and the home surrounded by the SWAT team.
The house is in the 11000 block of Barman Avenue in Culver City, Officer Lizeth Lomeli of the LAPD Media Relations Section said.
The chain of events began with a shooting about 11:55 p.m. Monday at Sixth Street and Maple Avenue, triggering a pursuit that ended with a crash at 12:23 a.m. around Berryman Avenue and Braddock Drive, police said.
The 36-year-old man shot downtown was taken to a hospital where he died, Orris said.
Officers found a passenger inside the suspect’s vehicle who had been shot, LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery told reporters at the barricade scene. That person was taken to a hospital, where his vital signs were stable, the sergeant said.
