A 35-year-old man who threatened employees of a Norco business with a gun was sentenced Tuesday to three years and eight months in prison.

Anthony Joseph Basso Jr. of Riverside pleaded guilty in May to assault with a firearm and false imprisonment. As part of his plea agreement, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office dropped three related felony charges.

Superior Court Judge O.G. Magno certified the terms of the plea agreement and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Davis, in the predawn hours of Jan. 28, Basso walked into a store in the 1900 block of Four Wheel Drive, near Second Street, and pulled a handgun on clerks for reasons unclear.

Basso leveled the pistol at the victims, shouting threats of violence, prompting one of the employees to call 911, Davis said.

He said deputies reached the store within a couple of minutes and arrested the defendant without a struggle.

According to court records, Basso has a misdemeanor DUI conviction from 2008.
